Lust and wantonness

Lust is more deceptive than say the obvious sin of adultery, it creeps into even christain marriages. It is as if we say, “we will give Jesus our sins and not commit raunchy or outlandish sins but we will keep this warm feeling of sensuality and lust, just for our spouses, it is harmless”. But it isn’t harmless, it is like the tiny seed of those weeds like dandelions and thistles that when they grow up they go to seed and have thousands and thousands of little seeds that blow in the wind. They get everywhere in the garden.

Sensuality is not the same as love, lust is not the same as love. Love isnt boring, the bible says to love one another fervently with a pure love.

I would like to start this part with the similarities of wisdom and foolishness that I found in proverbs, the Spirit of Wisdom says:
1) Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:  She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table.  She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city,  Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him, Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.  Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding. Prov 9:1-6

A strange woman, a foolish woman, or a spirit of lust says:

2) …the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil: Prov 5:3

A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing.  For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,  To call passengers who go right on their ways:  Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,  Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.  But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.   Prov 9:13-18

Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel. Prov 20:17

they both cry out from the high places of the city, they both call to people, but the one calls us to go in the way of understanding, the other to stolen waters and secrets. the foolish is smooth and sweet. (if it was obvious then not so many people would be deceived.)

For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.  And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.   2 Cor 11:13-15

I am going to attempt to show the difference between Holy fervent passionate love that is from God and sensuality and lust and wantonness.

Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;  As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: 1 Peter 1:13-14

James wrote about differences in wisdom also:
This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.  For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.  But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.    James 3:15-17

this scripture really hit home with me:

But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth. 1 Tim 5:6

I felt empty inside, and dead.

And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead. Rev 3:1

That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;  And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;  And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.     Eph 4:22-24

And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.  For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.  But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.  Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.     Eph 5:11-14

Lust and sensuality have shame with them, a married couple having pure fervent love in their sex life has no shame attached, even if they knew God was aware of what they were doing.

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.  Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.               Heb 4:12-13

…not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts. 1 Thess 2:4

All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the Lord weigheth the spirits.      Prov 16:2

Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. Prov 16:18

For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her. Prov 7:26

When you have been reading this you may have been thinking about some famous people that have been exposed by their sexual sins. Many of them have had a spirit of lust. If we have a spirit of lust it will cause us to be more and more under its control. If you are a christian couple, or even a single person and you willingly keep just a seed of lust in your heart, it will grow. If you say, its just lust between my spouse and myself, or just for my pleasure, it is still a seed of lust. Heavenly Father would say, “that is not for My children”. Maybe your life or ministry is not so under a microscope that your fall would be public, maybe your seed of lust won’t have time to fully flower before Jesus returns.

When Jesus returns it says that all things will be open and exposed and that: All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the Lord weigheth the spirits.    Prov 16:2

Jesus will clearly see the spirit in us. He already does. The gifts and the calling are without repentance from our Lord, but except we repent and ask Him to deliver us from any spirit that is not of Him, we will suffer. Bring it to Jesus and He will give us more grace, He has promised to deliver us. Other people don’t fall because they are less strong than you or I.  Jesus knows that and so He gave us sisters and brothers to walk with us and pray for us and with us. The problem is that with human beings being so judgmental and condemning it is often hard to find one to go to and ask for prayer for such things.

I pray that christians will give themselves to Jesus to be the kind of people that others can go to confess sins and for prayer for the difficult things in this life, even the things that have shame. I pray that we would all humble ourselves before the Lord who alone is righteous.

But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.    James 4:6

He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but who whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.     Prov 28:13

But he that doeth truth cometh to the light…    John 3:21

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Gal 5:19

Definition of LASCIVIOUS : lewd, lustful 1wan·ton adj \ˈwȯn-tən, ˈwän-\
Definition of WANTON
1a archaic : hard to control : undisciplined, unruly 2a : lewd, bawdy b : causing sexual excitement : lustful, sensual

Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.  But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.     Romans 13:13-14

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.    1 John 2:16

For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.  While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.  For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.               2 Peter 2:18-20

When we walk in lust instead of love we entertain a spirit that takes us far away from Jesus. When we ask Jesus to cleanse us of lust we find a greater passion in our marriage than we had even known possible. When we walk in lust we lose the fellowship with Jesus a little more each day until we can get so far away that we get into bondage and can’t contain our passions.

Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.  For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life.    Prov 6:25-26

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: John 14:6

That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. Eph 5:27

Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:  Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.        1 Peter 1:22-23

As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;                      1 Peter 1:14-15

Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?  Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?      Prov 6:27-28

Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.                1 Cor 5:6-8

Lust has an ability to enslave people, it is not possible to break free of it on our own.

His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins. Prov 5:22

But nothing is too difficult for the Lord!

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,  To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.      Luke 4:18-19

The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.   Prov 4:19

…but the just shall come out of trouble. Prov 12:13

For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:         Eph 5:8

For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.  But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,  Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;      Titus 3:3-5

He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.     Prov 25:28

He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.       Prov 16:32

Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.  Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.  For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.  But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.  For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,      1 Thess 5:5-9

Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel. Prov 20:17

For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.    Gal 6:8

Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.     2 Cor 7:1

Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:  Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.  But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,  Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)        Eph 2:2-5

And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.       1 Cor 15:49

For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.    Heb 8:12

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.      2 Cor 5:21

And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.     Ezek 36:27

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:  Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.  Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;       1 Peter 2:9-11

For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: 1 Peter 4:3

But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:        2 Thess 2:13

For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,            1 Thess 5:9

Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?  But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.  Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.  I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.     Romans 6:16-19

For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.     Gal 6:8

When we come together in intimacy with our spouse in pureness, walking in love, we have great rejoicing. When we come together in lust we often have emptiness and darkness and shame afterwards. Jesus spoke of some in the book of revelation:

Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.     Rev 3:4

He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.        Rev 3:5

And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony…           Rev 12:11

and in Zechariah it says:
And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.  And the Lord said unto Satan, The Lord rebuke thee, O Satan; even the Lord that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?  Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel.  And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment.     Zech 3:1-4

Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.  And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life. These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.  But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.  And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.  If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.    1 John 2:24-29

Now when I passed by thee, and looked upon thee, behold, thy time was the time of love; and I spread my skirt over thee, and covered thy nakedness: yea, I sware unto thee, and entered into a covenant with thee, saith the Lord GOD, and thou becamest mine.         Ezek 16:8

…and your life is hid with Christ in God. Col 3:3
