In my learning about adultery I have found that there are a couple of kinds of adultery. There is spiritual adultery, when we turn to another besides the Lord
“Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the Lord:” Jer 31:32
Then said the Lord unto me, Go yet, love a woman beloved of her friend, yet an adulteress, according to the love of the Lord toward the children of Israel, who look to other gods, and love flagons of wine. Hosea 3:1
There is also the kind when you are married and have an affair with someone other than your spouse, and there is the kind that Jesus spoke of when a person remarries after a divorce and their spouse is still living. I hope these scriptures will be helpful to you if you are or have been in any kind of adultery. I had an affair when i was married and i felt so horrible and i knew I had greatly disappointed not only myself but God also. I stayed drunk for a long time so i didnt have to think about it and i knew not to go near God or anything christian because i knew what i was and what i deserved. Then one day i read this:
And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. Gen 6:5-8
And the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lift up above the earth. And the waters prevailed, and were increased greatly upon the earth; and the ark went upon the face of the waters. And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered. Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered. And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man: All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died. Gen 7:17-22
and the waters receded
And Noah builded an altar unto the Lord; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. And the Lord smelled a sweet savour; and the Lord said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. Gen 8:20-21
I especially noticed that God knew this: “for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth” So i figured that maybe God wouldnt just kill me, like everyone in that flood.
When the Lord smelled the sweet savor of the sacrifice that Noah offered to Him, He said He would not again curse or smite because the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth. But Noah was righteous, and I am not. I found out though that if we give ourselves to Jesus and ask Him to save us, He is righteous and He becomes our sacrifice:
And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. Eph 5:2
…for I knew that thou wouldest deal very treacherously, and wast called a transgressor from the womb. For my name’s sake will I defer mine anger, and for my praise will I refrain for thee, that I cut thee not off. Isaiah 48:8-9
Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the Lord: Jer 31:31-32
And I will make with them a covenant of peace… Ezek 34:25
And the tree of the field shall yield her fruit, and the earth shall yield her increase, and they shall be safe in their land, and shall know that I am the Lord, when I have broken the bands of their yoke, and delivered them out of the hand of those that served themselves of them. Ezek 34:27
When I read those things I still felt awful my guilt was tremendous, but He showed me scriptures that I prayed back to Him:
…mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me. Psalms 38:4
Deliver me from all my transgressions: make me not the reproach of the foolish. Psalms 39:8
For innumerable evils have compassed me about: mine iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of mine head: therefore my heart faileth me. Be pleased, O Lord, to deliver me: O Lord, make haste to help me. Psalms 40:12-13
And then He showed me these:
I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. Psalms 40:1-2
Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: let such as love thy salvation say continually, The Lord be magnified. But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God. Psalms 40:16-17

And she shall follow after her lovers, but she shall not overtake them; and she shall seek them… Hosea 2:7
And he made his grave with the wicked… Isaiah 53:9
…and she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels, and she went after her lovers, and forgat me, saith the Lord. Hosea 2:13
I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely: for mine anger is turned away from him. Hosea 14:4
For the Lord hath called thee as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when thou wast refused, saith thy God. For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee. In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the Lord thy Redeemer. For this is as the waters of Noah unto me: for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; so have I sworn that I would not be wroth with thee, nor rebuke thee. For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the Lord that hath mercy on thee. Isaiah 54:6-10
