So many people in churches lately seem to be saying “dont let any negative confession come out of your mouth”, as if by saying the wrong thing the devil automatically gets power to attack you. Jesus is sanctifying us, cleansing our hearts and tongues, but we are under grace…
Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: Eph 4:13-15
Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work. 2 Thess 2:16-17
Jesus said that all power was given unto Him, not the devil.
Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: John 19:11
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. John 10:27-29
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Eph 2:8
Bridling our tongue does not mean we deny the truth of what is really happening, or that we pretend or claim that only good things happen to us. Never speaking any negative things at all is the teaching in some churches. They claim that if we only have positive confessions nothing bad will happen and we will be wealthy healthy and in the kingdom of God.,,
consider the apostle Paul’s positive confession, by speaking the truth, even when it wasn’t all wonderful, he didn’t give the devil any power over him:
Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep; In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness. 2 Cor 11:25-27
For, when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side; without were fightings, within were fears. 2 Cor 7:5
Consider the man that Jesus healed who was blind. The man was honest and got healed again because it didn’t work totally the first time.. He could have instead walked away, half blind, confessing that he was healed, but he still would have been half blind:
And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought. And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking. After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly. Mark 8:23-25
Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts… Psalms 51:6
“… Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman. But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise. Gal 4:22-23
Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman. Gal 4:30
Not of works, lest any man should boast. Eph 2:9
Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Romans 4:4-5
I have heard so often how hard people pray or how often they claim a scripture, or how often they say the words for the things they desire, even good things. But is God going to save our spouses and children because we have been praying for them for 40 years? If we do that and then get these things, is it because of a debt God owes us for our tireless work? We get really puffed up when that happens and what of the scripture that says that no flesh should glory in His presence? what if the true miracles of Jesus are because He died on the cross, and intervened in our lives out of His great love for us, even though we didn’t do anything to deserve it? Instead of because we claimed it or called it.
But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. Gal 3:23
Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned: 1 Tim 1:5
“faith unfeigned”
Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. John 6:28-29
When the Spirit of the Living God (who is not retired somewhere expecting his church to finish things up down here) quickens us, there is faith. There is faith because the Son of the Living God has taken the time to speak to us personally, and that is so amazing that we can believe whatever He says just because He said it. Today.
Where the word of a king is, there is power… Eccl 8:4
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17
The Living Word of God.
And we don’t have to worry about remembering it later, “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. John 14:26
Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away. Luke 21:33
When I am thinking about the working of Jesus in my life, I think back to the times He quickened me and I will never forget those times, they are written on my heart in love. I am filled with awe.
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith… Heb 12:2
Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us; 2 Cor 1:10
I do not want to have faith in my faith, but instead I want faith in Jesus. Faith in faith is like us practicing hard saying those scriptures over and over to build our faith until we believe it, and then I exercise my faith and don’t let any negative thoughts come into my mind to undermine my faith, but am strong in the faith I am working at until I have faith. That is not me having faith in Jesus, that is me having faith in my ability to remember and claim and never think negative thoughts hoping that God will see my hard work and do what i want Him to do!
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matt 11:28-30
For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water. Jer 2:13
Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. John 4:10
For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them. Romans 10:5
Faith by the works of the law is this:
And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates. Deut 6:6-9
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Gal 5:22
Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. 2 Cor 3:6
Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned: 1 Tim 1:5
I tried reading this and applying it to church of positive confession and prosperity doctrine instead of Israel:
But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness. Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone; As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. Romans 9:31-33
This I say then, Walk in the Spirit… Gal 5:16
But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. Romans 8:9
For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; Col 1: 19
“…if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.” Gal 5:18
Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace. Gal 5:4
And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. 1 Cor 15:45
But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter. Romans 7:6
Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God. Romans 7:4
When I was involved with a church and practicing claiming things and memorizing scriptures and confessing things I wanted to acquire, I got sooooo lonely. I remembered the great love I used to feel when I fellowshiped with Jesus. I missed Him so badly. My life was miserable and empty again. I wanted to know what Jesus was doing, not what the church was doing supposedly in His name.
the Lord drew my heart to Galatians:
This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain. He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. Gal 3:2-6
God spoke to Abraham, and Abraham tried to fulfill God’s promise to him on his own. He did get a child, but not the promised child, he got Ishmael. Ishmael did become a great nation, Genesis 17:20. Churches can prosper in this doctrine but not as by the promise of God through the grace of our Lord Christ Jesus.
My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you, to be present with you now, and to change my voice; for I stand in doubt of you. Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law? For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman. But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise. Gal 4:19-23
And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. Gal 3:12
Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman. Gal 4:30
we do have many great promises given us by God, but we must wait for Him…
Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, Heb 6:1
repentance from dead works
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Gal 5:25
And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. 1 Cor 2:1-5
…Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. 1 Cor 1:24
But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Eph 2:4-9
Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. Rev 2:4-5
That cut me to the heart when i saw it- its exactly what i had done:
…because thou hast left thy first love. Rev 2:4
Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee. Psalms 51:10-13
The joy of my salvation was when I stood without pride, naked and bare and unable on my own, praying that Jesus would do what I could not. It was then that I was willing to let Him work whatever He wanted in my life. There was great joy. The times of refreshing came from the presence of the Lord.
And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. Heb 12:5-11
But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. James 3:17
While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. Heb 3:15
And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed. Heb 12:13
Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you. Prov 1:23
When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek. Psalms 27:8
God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Heb 1:1-2
To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. 1 Peter 2:4-6
I had to quit going to that church that taught dead works, and I suffered some scorn, and some people were sure that I had walked away from following the Lord because I left church where the scriptures were spoken so much. But it was worth it, I found my first love again, and He forgave all. Now I have faith that works by love, His love, the endless ocean of His love. His exceeding great love and faith unfeigned, because He rose again and is alive, Jesus, still working the works of God on the earth.
Sometimes the words they say when you leave are hard to hear because they also use scripture in that. And legalism shows up in so many ways, its following a set of rules and only using some scriptures to back up points that are used to make others adhere to everything the leadership says they must be doing, without following Jesus.
Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise. But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now. Gal 4:28-29
They zealously affect you, but not well; yea, they would exclude you, that ye might affect them. Gal 4:17
Once I wondered if (I was in a church that was preaching “Just claim it! Stand on the word, we are healthy, wealthy, and in the kingdom of God!”) I wondered what would happen if a brother or sister stood up and said, “hallelujah brother I am standing on the word, I am drinking a little wine for my stomach and my often illnesses!” I wouldn’t want to be him, they would probably be shocked and call him an heretic, and say that no real believers should drink wine or ever be ill, they might even throw him out, unless they had read the apostle Pauls instructions to Timothy:
Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men’s sins: keep thyself pure. Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities. 1 Tim 5:22-23
This is so important and one way to tell if someone is following Jesus or caught up in works: works and doing it on our own does not require the death of Jesus on the cross and its not offensive, it gets great praise from others because of all the hard work and self improvement we are putting into it.
And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution? then is the offence of the cross ceased. Gal 5:11
But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye… 1 Peter 4:13-14
I have noticed that some churches that are not walking in the Spirit of the Living God talk a lot about the Holy Spirit and God, but seldom about Jesus and what He did on the cross, this is with the exception of some that love to talk about how by his stripes we are healed, to prove that we are healed, and then ask us why are you not? Jesus went to the pool of Bethsaidia and healed a paralyzed man that was lying there waiting for an angel to heal him by troubling the water in the pool. Only one person got healed each time when the angel came and stirred the waters and that man could never make it into the pool in time. When Jesus went there that day He only healed one man, there were many lying there. I doubt that after Jesus left that man stood there and said to the others, I got healed because I have faith and you must not. When people this day get healed they often do say that very thing with just a word or look to others around them. Or a ‘i got healed or rich because i worked hard at reading the bible or fasting, or whatever, if you would do the same you could too!
Jesus still heals people, but it says that the Lord went with them confirming the word with signs.
And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen. Mark 16:20
When we follow Jesus people do get healed, it is what He does, He heals them, He sets them free. But when we follow healing instead of following Jesus, and seek to heal people in our fleshly notion of the will of God, people get condemnation and people don’t see Jesus speaking through us, they see fleshly zeal. Through their desperation they may follow for a while, but fleshly healings don’t last. If we preach the word that Jesus gives us at the right time, then Jesus will confirm that word, His word, and then as it is written:
If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. John 8:36.
God used the brass serpent on the pole to heal the children of israel in the wilderness, but they began worshiping the serpent on the pole instead of looking to the Living God.
Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign. 2 Kings 18:1
He removed the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves, and brake in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan. 2 Kings 18:4
As far as I can tell, Jesus never healed two people the same way. Do we think He is asking us to copy what He did, or do we know that we are to follow Him and let Him work through us, however He wants to? are we preaching as the Spirit gives utterance, or are we preaching dead words that we think would likely apply to the person, and do make sense in a way? Do we claim scriptures that are the promises of God indeed but try to apply them as we will? I dont want to do this:
Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel. Psalms 78:41
Besides that, if I could just claim any scriptures that I want, how about if I claim the scripture in the old testament that says a virgin will be with child as my own? you would tell me I was crazy because that scripture was about Jesus and His mother Mary. Well what am I supposed to do? just take the ones that seem feasible to me, or the ones I really want? shall i ask the pastor which scriptures I should claim for myself? how is the pastor getting this knowledge? can I claim all the healing scriptures automatically? can I say that that is always God’s will? If i say that am I not being presumptuous by thinking I know automatically His will?
And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong. 2 Cor 12:7-10
Brethren, I beseech you, be as I am; for I am as ye are: ye have not injured me at all. Ye know how through infirmity of the flesh I preached the gospel unto you at the first. And my temptation which was in my flesh ye despised not, nor rejected; but received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus. Where is then the blessedness ye spake of? for I bear you record, that, if it had been possible, ye would have plucked out your own eyes, and have given them to me. Gal 4:12-15
Pauls letter to timothy:
Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men’s sins: keep thyself pure. Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities. 1 Tim 5:22-23
But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land; But unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow. And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian. Luke 4:25-27
There is a story I heard by Corrie Ten Boom telling of a woman she met behind the iron curtain in Europe or Russia, when it was illegal to have bibles or christian literature. The woman had multiple sclerosis or something similar and could only move one finger because of the disease. When Corrie prayed why don’t you heal her Lord?, the woman’s husband told her that the police never bother them because she is so ill, and the woman was the only person in the city that could type and translate the bible undetected by the police. I encourage you to read any books you can by Corrie Ten boom, there are many more that she wrote after “the Hiding Place” there are many stories in them like that.
…Trophimus have I left at Miletum sick. 2 Tim 4:20 That was the apostle paul saying that. The Paul that layed hands on lots and lots of people that got healed, the one that had been given tremendous faith by Jesus!
For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow. Phil 2:27
Now I try to lean not on my own understanding. I am become a fool that I may become wise. I cry for wisdom. If I stay in the mindset that it is God’s will for everyone to get healed by claiming scriptures , I might miss what Jesus is doing altogether. Perhaps the Lord would have me help them and be compassionate, without Him healing them. Perhaps it is the will of the Lord that they be healed but not the right time.
Here is the story of when Jesus healed a blind man that was born blind:
And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. John 9:1-3
what if the pharisees of Jesus day had met this man 2 years earlier and said to him, you are a sinner, if you would just repent you would be healed, if you had more faith you could claim the scriptures and be healed? What if they cast him out of their inner fellowship because he didn’t have faith like them? He wasn’t going to receive his sight until that day and hour when Jesus passed by. Blind all his life, and that through no fault of his own. Oot churches too often become callous and condemning.
When we walk with Jesus, He shows us His will , when we cease to follow Him we have only our understanding to rely on.
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Prov 3:5-6
…Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. 1 Cor 1:24
what if have we become Job’s friends telling people they must be sinning to have illness come upon them, Jobs friends who said his doctrine was all wrong, and that he said the wrong things and that it was his own fault he was sick and destitute, Job’s friends whom the Lord chastised-
And it was so, that after the Lord had spoken these words unto Job, the Lord said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath. Job 42:7
What if Jesus asks us to have the poor destitute sick person like Job, the one we have made feel guilty to be the one to pray for US? Can you imagine if a poor sick person came into your church and Jesus told you to ask them to pray for you?
…and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that ye have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job. Job 42:8
Job, the same Job who was covered with boils and used a piece of pottery to lance them! Grossss “So went Satan forth from the presence of the Lord, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown. And he took him a potsherd to scrape himself withal; and he sat down among the ashes.” Job 2:7-8
Imagine Job coming into your church and God telling you to just ignore the boils and grossness and ask Job to pray for you! Wow,God doesn’t want to injure our pride, He wants to kill it!
That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: Eph 1:17
in the knowledge of Him.
But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me… Jer 9:24
…and of the Father, and of Christ; 3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Col 2:2-3
For who hath stood in the counsel of the Lord, and hath perceived and heard his word? who hath marked his word, and heard it? Jer 23:18
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. John 16:33
So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him. Isaiah 59:19
Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body’s sake, which is the church: Col 1:24
Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; 1 Peter 4:1
Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. 1 Peter 4:12-13
How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality. 2 Cor 8:2
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Matt 5:4
And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God. Luke 6:20
We do need faith, faith unfeigned,
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Eph 2:8
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Gal 5:22
And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. 5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. Acts 1:4-5
it is Jesus that baptizes with the Holy Spirit~
And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God. John 1:32-34
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. John 16:13
