The Lord baptizes us in the Holy Spirit but the purpose of that is not to make a ministry of the Holy Spirit, or to glorify the Holy Spirit, although He is glorified with the Heavenly Father and Jesus, the purpose of the Holy Spirit is:
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. 1 Cor 2:9-10
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you. John 16:13-15
The Holy spirit receives of Jesus and shows it to us. Jesus is He who baptizes in the Holy Spirit, Jesus said, “no man can come to the Father except by Me.”
I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. John 10:14-16
The Holy Spirit is sent so that we can hear Jesus’ voice, not some other voice, or some other wisdom.
That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; 3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Col 2:2-3
Its all “in Jesus”. Even if we have a “ministry” and can do wonderful things it is all for nothing if we don’t have a daily walk with Jesus Himself. We must seek Him face to face, we must have fellowship with Jesus Himself.
One of my favorite things that the Holy Spirit does is that He reveals Jesus and God. What they are like. Sometimes I read things about God but don’t look at Him as if He is a real person. I decided to read the gospels without trying to get smarter about all of God’s stuff: wisdom, abilities, how He did that miracle, wondering if scientifically I could do that or anything like that.
Jesus, the only begotten Son of God, walked on this earth as a man so He could be acquainted with our weaknesses, so He would know exactly what it’s like to be a person on this earth. He was in all ways tempted as we are, only without sin. The Holy Spirit reveals to us what He is like. When I read the gospels I wanted to know more about Jesus. Did He yell at people? Was He super strict, or mean? I know it says God so loved the world, but did He like it?
When my children were little I loved them and yet sometimes I just had to get a break from them.(they feel the same about me often!) I found it easy to become a ruthless dictator when they were just pushing my limits. Some days though, I had such a good time with them. There were days that they could do no wrong in my sight. On those days not only did I love them, but I liked them and couldn’t wait until they got home from school. On the days when I am so full of love for them, I’m still the parent, but when I correct them I do it in a different spirit. I’m gentle, kind, I don’t attack or yell, but I guide them, I lead them instead of trying to push them.
I remembered that the bible says there is no condemnation with Christ Jesus. He doesn’t always condone my behaviour, but He doesn’t condemn me, He says, Here is what needs to change, and here is how I can do that in your life…are you willing? He never yells at me!
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. James 1:5

Jesus said of Himself:
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matt 11:28-30
And it was prophesied of Him:
That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, Luke 1:74
Here is a good description of what He is like:
Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s. The Lord executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed. He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel. The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever. He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him. Psalms 103:1-13
For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard. Psalms 22:24
Jesus is so tender and compassionate toward us~
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus… Romans 8:1
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. John 3:17
Not only is there no condemnation:
…the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. Romans 5:5
I began reading the bible as often as I could and sometimes I would get caught up in wanting to work really hard for Jesus, trying to make sure I did everything right from now on. It was a very hard time in my life, my kids were really little and my marriage wasn’t going very well, I was tired a lot, and very lonely. My mother in law would come over to see the kids and she was always calling them babe. That was so hard to hear because I remembered when I was very young and someone that dearly loved me used to call me that too, now I felt so lonesome and unloved.
One day a man that attended the same church as I did was in the neighborhood on business and he came over to me in the yard, looking down a lot and acting kind of nervous. He said that he and his wife had been praying for me and he had a word from the Lord for me, but that it was kind of a hard word to hear, “you probably wont like it, I’m sorry but i feel i have to share it with you, but remember when the Lord corrects us he does it for our own good.”
Oh great, I thought, nobody loves me and I have messed up again with Jesus too. The guy gave me these three scriptures:
And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. For ye are yet carnal… 1 Cor 3:1-3
I said thanks and the guy left. I was so depressed that I had to read it 2 or 3 times before I got it… God called me Babe!!! He wasnt reproving me, he sent some guy from church to tell me God was speaking to me as a babe in Christ! Oh how I cried with joy, the God of the whole universe cares about me deeply! He cares about you that much also!
