Can We Trust Jesus?

A lot of people don’t want to give their lives to Jesus because they don’t want to become like all those “christians.” Jesus doesn’t want to make us like “all those christians”- He wants to make us like Himself.

For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;     Heb 7:26

I read the gospels to see how Jesus acts towards His disciples, I especially like how he treated them in public.

So Jesus went out and called some scruffy guys and said “follow Me”. He went out to the common people and preached to them, He healed them, He comforted them, He gave them free food.

While Jesus was out preaching how God loved people so much, Those pharisees from the church kept poppin up here and there. One time they came out and started saying: Those boys of yours! It’s the sabbath and their out here pickin corn and eatin it!

Jesus said to those pharisees:  And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:  Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.   Mark 2:27-28

Another time they said: Look who He’s hanging out with! Sinners!

And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners?   Mark 2:16

They said: And they arent fasting and praying!

And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not? Mark 2:18

And I’m sure the most irritating thing- they don’t wash their hands before they eat!!!

Then came together unto him the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, which came from Jerusalem. And when they saw some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is to say, with unwashen, hands, they found fault.    Mark 7:1-2

Every single time Jesus defended them, which really made the pharisees mad.

He taught His followers, He defended them, He encouraged them, He helped them see things from a different perspective, He loved them with His whole heart.

Even when they sinned, He drew them back in love.

One day I heard Jesus say, if someone steals your car you can call the police and they will get it back for you, that is because you have the title for the car. If the adversary steals my people and causes them to sin, I have much stronger police, I always get them back, I have the title.

At first when I thought of giving my life to Him I thought He would make me an airhead. But then I read:

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.         2 Tim 1:7

Some people do think I am an airhead, but those people always thought that even before I gave my life to Jesus anyway.

Some people have misused the gifts of God and given Him a bad reputation, but that isn’t His fault. He once showed me that if I gave my son a really nice Ferrari and he went out speeding and got a lot of tickets, would that be my fault? No. It is not God’s fault when we His children do wrong things either but its easy for some to blame Him.

If we want to know what God wants us to be like, we need to look at Jesus.

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.               John 16:13-14

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;  Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.              John 14:16-17

In that verse above Jesus tells us that there is a difference between the Holy Spirit being “with us” and “in us”

Thus saith the Lord that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee; Fear not…    Isaiah 44:2

And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.     Isaiah 46:4

To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.    Isaiah 61:3

In the book of Acts its says:

And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost.    Acts 13:52

I have seen his ways, and will heal him: I will lead him also, and restore comforts unto him and to his mourners.  I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near, saith the Lord; and I will heal him.      Isaiah 57:18-19

Jesus referred to the Holy Spirit as the Comforter: But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:     John 15:26

But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.     Romans 8:9

But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.       Romans 8:11

By being filled with the Holy Spirit the early disciples were able to have joy and peace in the midst of very hard circumstances. Some today say that the Holy Spirit was only for the early church, but Jesus said all believers must be born of the Holy Spirit~

Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.  Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?  Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.     John 3:3-5

Jesus also said:

If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?    Luke 11:13
